I Think I'll Praise Him

5 Day Devotional

Day 1: Praise Is Who You Are
Devotional: It is easy to think of praise as something you do after God comes through. You pray, you wait, and then once the answer arrives, you lift your hands and say thank you. But praise was never meant to be a reward you hand God after He delivers. It is your identity as a believer. David understood this deeply. He praised God as a young shepherd boy with nothing but a sling and a song. He praised God in the palace and in the cave. He praised God before the victory came and after it did. Praise was not an event on his calendar. It was the rhythm of his life. When you gave your life to Christ, something changed on the inside. The Spirit of the Living God took up residence in you, and with Him came a reason to praise that no circumstance can take away. Your praise is not rooted in how your week is going. It is rooted in who lives within you. This is why the Bible calls us to praise without ceasing. Not because life is always easy, but because God is always good. You do not have to wait for things to get better before you open your mouth and worship. You can start right now, exactly where you are.

Bible Verse: "By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name." - Hebrews 13:15 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question: If praise is truly your identity as a believer and not just a response to good circumstances, what does your daily pattern of praise say about how you see God right now?

Quote: "Praise is who we are because of who lives within us."

Prayer: Lord, remind me today that praise is not something I earn the right to offer after things go my way. Help me to praise You as a lifestyle, not just a moment. Thank You for living within me and giving me every reason to worship. Amen.
Day 2: A Lifestyle, Not an Event
Devotional: Most of us treat praise like a special occasion. We bring it out on Sunday morning, dust it off during a hard season, and put it back on the shelf when life gets busy again. But that was never God's design. David wrote in Psalm 34:1 that he would bless the Lord at all times. Not some of the time. Not when the mood was right. At all times. That kind of praise is not driven by emotion. It is driven by a decision. Think about your own life for a moment. When things are going well, praise comes naturally. But what about when you are tired, confused, or hurting? That is exactly where a lifestyle of praise is tested and proven. David wrote some of his most powerful psalms from the lowest places of his life. He did not wait until he felt like praising. He chose to praise, and his feelings followed. Praise is not emotionalism. It is not working yourself into a feeling. It is a deliberate act of faith that says, "God, I trust You even when I cannot trace You." When praise becomes your lifestyle rather than your event, it changes how you face every single day. You stop waiting for the right moment and start creating one.

Bible Verse: "I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth." - Psalms 34:1 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question: What is one specific area of your life right now where you have been waiting for circumstances to improve before you choose to praise God?

Quote: "Praise wasn't an event for David, but praise was his lifestyle."

Prayer: Father, forgive me for treating praise like a reward I give You only after things go my way. Teach me to make praise the first language of my heart, not the last. Help me to bless Your name today, no matter what today looks like. Amen.
Day 3: Praise Shakes the Prison
Devotional: Paul and Silas had every reason to complain. They had been beaten, thrown into prison, and locked in stocks. Nobody would have blamed them for spending that night in silence or in tears. But at midnight, they did something unexpected. They prayed and sang praises to God, and the whole prison shook. Preaching got them put into prison, but praise got them out. That is a powerful truth. There are situations in life that no amount of strategy, worry, or venting on social media will fix. But praise has a way of moving things that nothing else can touch. King Jehoshaphat faced three armies with no military solution. His response was to send singers ahead of his soldiers. The moment they began to praise, God began to fight. Not after the service. Not after the last song. The moment praise began, God moved. You may be in a prison of your own right now. It might be fear, grief, a broken relationship, or a situation that feels completely hopeless. God is not asking you to pretend everything is fine. He is inviting you to open your mouth and praise Him anyway. Sometimes the walls do not come down until the singing starts. Your praise is not passive. It is powerful.

Bible Verse: "And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten." - 2 Chronicles 20:22 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question: Is there a situation in your life right now where you have been trying every other option except praise? What would it look like to lead with worship instead?

Quote: "Preaching got them put into prison, but praise got them out."

Prayer: Lord, I confess that I often exhaust every other option before I turn to praise. Remind me today that You move when Your people worship. Give me the courage to open my mouth and praise You even in the middle of my hardest moments. Amen.
Day 4: Praise Is Your Weapon
Devotional: The enemy is not afraid of your attendance record. He is not threatened by your church membership or even your giving. But the moment you open your mouth and genuinely praise the Living God, something shifts in the spiritual atmosphere. Lucifer once led worship in heaven. He was created for it. But pride brought him down, and he lost everything. Now, every time God's people lift their voices in praise, it is a reminder to the enemy of what he lost and what He will never have again. That is why he works so hard to silence the church. A praising church is a dangerous church. This is not about volume or performance. It is about faith expressed through worship. When Jehoshaphat's singers went out ahead of the army, they were not performing for a crowd. They were declaring the character of God in the face of impossible odds. And God responded by fighting the battle Himself. You have been given a weapon that the enemy cannot match. Your praise declares that God is sovereign, that He is faithful, and that no weapon formed against you will prosper. Do not let the enemy talk you out of it. Do not let discouragement, busyness, or pride keep your mouth closed. Open it and praise Him. The battle belongs to the Lord.

Bible Verse: "Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God." - Psalms 50:23 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question: In what ways has the enemy been working to silence your praise lately, and what would it take for you to reclaim it as a weapon of faith?

Quote: "The devil always is trying to silence praise."

Prayer: God, I thank You that praise is not just an expression but a weapon You have placed in my hands. Help me to use it boldly and consistently, especially when the enemy is working hardest to silence me. The battle is Yours, and I choose to praise You through it. Amen.
Day 5: Praise Before the Breakthrough
Devotional: Here is a truth that changes everything. God does not wait until you finish praising to begin working. He moves when praise begins. In 2 Chronicles 20, the singers had barely opened their mouths when God set ambushments against the enemy. Not after the service. Not after the final verse. When they began. That word "began" is everything. It means you do not have to have it all figured out. You do not have to feel strong or certain. You just have to start. D.L. Moody understood that praise always precedes victory. The world has yet to see what God can do through a church that has learned to praise Him through every circumstance. That church could be yours. That person could be you. You may be waiting for God to move before you praise Him. But what if God is waiting for your praise before He moves? Praise Him while you are waiting. Praise Him while you are hurting. Praise Him when you are confused. Your praise is not a sign that everything is fine. It is a declaration that God is faithful regardless. One day, you will stand in glory and lead worship where Lucifer once stood. You are being prepared for that right now. Every act of praise in the middle of a hard season is a rehearsal for eternity. Start today. Begin to praise, and watch what God does.

Bible Verse: "I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works." - Psalms 145:2 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question: What would change in your faith and your circumstances if you committed to praising God at the beginning of your struggles rather than waiting to see how they end?

Quote: "Praise doesn't depend on circumstances. Praise depends on Christ. And Jesus has never, ever, ever let us down."

Prayer: Father, I choose today to praise You before I see the breakthrough. You are faithful, You are worthy, and You have never let me down. Let my praise begin now, and let it be the sound that ushers in Your victory in my life. Amen.
