Stop Sleeping On Jesus
5 Day Devotional
Day 1: Wake Up Before You Miss It
Devotional: There is a moment in the Garden of Gethsemane that is easy to read past. Jesus, on the night before the cross, asked His closest friends to do one simple thing: stay awake with Him. They could not do it. Three times He returned. Three times He found them sleeping. Here is the hard truth. Most of us are not walking away from our faith in dramatic fashion. We are just drifting. Slowly. Quietly. We show up, we go through the motions, and we head home without ever letting God truly move us. That is spiritual drowsiness, and it is more dangerous than it looks. Romans 13:11 says it plainly. Now is the time to wake up. Not someday. Now. God is doing something in our world, in our families, and in our churches right now. The question is whether we are awake enough to recognize it and respond. You have not missed your chance yet. Jesus is still calling. His invitation is open today, and He is not finished with you. But the moment will not wait forever. Choose today to shake off the spiritual fog and lean in to what He is asking of you.
Bible Verse: 'And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.' - Romans 13:11 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question: In what area of your faith have you been simply going through the motions, and what would it look like to truly wake up in that area this week?
Quote: "God is moving. The question is, are we awake enough to recognize it."
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I have drifted into spiritual drowsiness without even realizing it. Open my eyes today to what You are doing around me, and give me the courage to respond. Amen.

Day 2: Stay Close When It Matters Most
Devotional: Jesus did not ask the disciples to solve His problem in the garden. He did not ask them to fight for Him or figure out a plan. He simply asked them to stay close. That request reveals something beautiful and sobering about who Jesus is. Even in His deepest pain, He wanted His people near. He still does. Every day, Jesus invites us into His presence through prayer and through His Word. He is not asking us to have all the answers. He is asking us to show up and stay close. But so often we are too busy, too distracted, or too tired to accept that invitation. Matthew 26:38 gives us a glimpse into the heart of Jesus that night. He was deeply grieved, and He wanted His disciples with Him. That same Jesus wants to be with you today, in whatever you are carrying. Do not let busyness rob you of closeness with Christ. The greatest thing you can do today is not check off a task list. It is to sit with Him, talk to Him, and let Him speak to you. Staying close to Jesus is not a passive thing. It is a daily, intentional choice, and it is always worth making.
Bible Verse: 'Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.' - Matthew 26:38 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question: When life gets heavy or busy, is drawing closer to Jesus your first instinct, or is He the last place you turn?
Quote: "Jesus invited the disciples into one of the most painful moments of His earthly life. He wasn't asking them to solve his problem. He was asking them to stay close."
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for inviting me into Your presence even when I have not been faithful to show up. Help me to choose closeness with You above every distraction today. Amen.

Day 3: Prayer Is Your First Line of Defense
Devotional: Jesus warned the disciples before the trouble even arrived. Watch and pray, He told them, so that you will not fall into temptation. He gave them the solution before the problem showed up. They did not take it seriously, and what they failed to do in prayer, they failed to do in public. Peter had boldly declared that he would never deny Jesus. Hours later, he did it three times. His failure did not begin at the fire where he was questioned. It began in the garden where he chose sleep over prayer. That pattern is still true for us today. Our biggest stumbles rarely begin in the moment of temptation. They begin in the quiet moments when we skip prayer, when we let the Bible collect dust, and when we convince ourselves we are strong enough to handle things on our own. A praying church is a powerful church. And a praying believer is a prepared believer. Prayer is not a last resort. It is your first line of defense. Start there today, before the pressure comes, before the temptation arrives, before the hard conversation happens. Get on your knees and stay there.
Bible Verse: 'Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the Spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.' - Matthew 26:41 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question: Are you turning to prayer before challenges arrive, or only after you are already struggling?
Quote: "Many of our biggest failures don't begin in temptation. It begins when we fail to be in this book. It begins when we fail to be on our knees praying."
Prayer: Father, teach me to make prayer my first response and not my last resort. Strengthen me through time in Your Word and on my knees so that I am ready for whatever comes. Amen.

Day 4: The Battle Is Already Here
Devotional: It would be easy to think the real spiritual battles are somewhere out in the future, that there will come a day when we need to get serious. But that day is not coming. It is already here. People around you are hurting right now. Families are falling apart. People are dying without ever hearing the gospel. The enemy is not taking a day off, and he is not waiting for the church to get comfortable before he makes his move. Habakkuk 2:2 carries a sense of urgency. Write the vision. Make it plain. Run with it. God has always called His people to move with purpose, not to sit still while the world burns around them. Here is the encouraging part. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing. Willing to share your faith with someone who needs it. Willing to love someone who is hard to love. Willing to stand in the gap for your family, your neighbors, and your community. The victory has already been won through Jesus Christ. You are not fighting for victory. You are fighting from it. So get up, step out, and be the church the world desperately needs right now.
Bible Verse: 'And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that He may run that readeth it.' - Habakkuk 2:2 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question: What is one specific, practical step you can take this week to engage the spiritual battle happening in your own community or family?
Quote: "The battle's not coming. It's here right now. It is time."
Prayer: Lord, light a fire in me that refuses to stay comfortable while people around me are lost and hurting. Use me today as part of Your answer to a broken world. Amen.

Day 5: He Has Not Given Up on You
Devotional: After the disciples fell asleep three times, after Peter denied Him, after they all scattered when things got hard, Jesus did not write them off. He kept showing up. He kept extending grace. He kept calling them back. That is who Jesus is. And that is exactly who He is for you today. Maybe you have been spiritually asleep for a while. Maybe you have gone through the motions for so long that you have forgotten what it feels like to be truly alive in your faith. Maybe you have failed in ways that make you wonder if God is done with you. He is not. He has not given up on His church, and He has not given up on you. But here is the gentle challenge. Grace is not a reason to stay asleep. It is a reason to wake up. Every day that you are breathing is another day that His invitation stands. He is moving. He is working. And He wants you to be part of it. Do not sleep through the greatest invitation you will ever receive. Wake up, step in, and trust that the same Jesus who showed grace to His disciples is more than able to use you too.
Bible Verse: 'And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?' - Matthew 26:40 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question: How does knowing that Jesus extended grace to His disciples even after they failed Him change the way you see your own spiritual failures and fresh starts?
Quote: "He kept showing them grace, kept showing back up for him. Guys, guess what? He's going to show up for your family. He's going to show up for your church. He's going to show up for the people you care about. But you just gotta wake up and recognize that you've been asleep on Jesus."
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for never giving up on me even when I have failed You. Help me to receive Your grace not as permission to stay comfortable, but as fuel to wake up and follow You wholeheartedly. Amen.
