Just One More Step

5 Day Devotional

Day 1: Just One More Step
Life often brings us to the brink of giving up, but sometimes all it takes is just one more step to reach where God wants us to be. King David's journey through the Kidron Valley and up the Mount of Olives, filled with sorrow and betrayal, showcases his unwavering faith. At his lowest point, David encounters Ziba, who brings much-needed provisions, symbolizing divine help and hope. This narrative encourages us to take that next step in faith, trusting that God has already prepared the help and victory we need.

Bible Verse: And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. - 2 Samuel 15:13

Reflection Question: What is one area in your life where you feel like giving up, and how can you take just one more step in faith?

Quote: Just one more step. There's some people, they just need one more step to get where God wants them to be.

Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to take just one more step in faith, trusting that You have already prepared the help and victory I need. Amen.

Day 2: Divine Help in Times of Trouble
David's encounter with Ziba, who brings provisions during his time of need, is a powerful reminder that God sends help when we need it most. Ziba's actions symbolize the Holy Spirit's role in our lives—caring for us, carrying us, and covering us. Even when we feel abandoned or defeated, God is always there, providing the support we need to keep going.

Bible Verse: And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness. - 2 Samuel 15:23

Reflection Question: Who are the 'Zibas' in your life that God has sent to help you in times of trouble?

Quote: Ziba, in scripture, is a type of the Holy Spirit. Ziba is the one who came to Mephibosheth. He came to him, he carried him, he cared for him, and he covered him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You have placed in my life to support and help me. Help me to recognize and appreciate them. Amen.

Day 3: The Consequences of Rebellion
The story of Absalom's rebellion against his father David highlights the devastating consequences of rebellion. Absalom's actions not only threatened David's kingdom but also his life. This narrative serves as a cautionary tale about the destructive power of rebellion and the importance of obedience and respect for authority.

Bible Verse: And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. - 2 Samuel 15:30

Reflection Question: Are there areas in your life where you are rebelling against God's authority? How can you turn back to Him?

Quote: Rebellion is in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction driveth it far from him.

Prayer: Lord, help me to recognize any areas of rebellion in my life and give me the strength to turn back to You in obedience and humility. Amen.

Day 4: The Rough Side of the Hill
The Christian life is full of hills—disappointments, heartaches, depression, and defeat. However, these rough patches give us the grip we need to climb higher. Just as David faced numerous challenges, we too must persevere, knowing that each step brings us closer to God's purpose for our lives.

Bible Verse: And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head. - 2 Samuel 15:32

Reflection Question: What 'hills' are you currently facing, and how can you use these challenges to grow in your faith?

Quote: The Christian life is full of hills. It's full of disappointments. It's full of heartaches. And it's full of depression and defeat at times, and despair.

Prayer: Father, help me to see the challenges in my life as opportunities to grow closer to You. Give me the strength to persevere and climb higher. Amen.

Day 5: Victory and Hope
Right when David and his followers were exhausted and about to give up, they took one step just a little past the top of the hill and found the help they needed. This moment symbolizes the victory and hope that await us if we persevere. God's promises are true, and He will never abandon us in our time of need.

Bible Verse: And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine. - 2 Samuel 16:1

Reflection Question: What steps can you take today to move closer to the victory and hope that God has promised you?

Quote: Right when David is exhausted and his family is exhausted, and those who are with him from Jerusalem are give out and about to give up, they took one step just a little past the top of that hill.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your promises of victory and hope. Help me to take the necessary steps to move closer to the fulfillment of Your promises in my life. Amen.
