What Is In Your House

5 Day Devotional

Day 1: Recognizing What You Have
In 2 Kings 4, the widow initially saw only her lack and desperation. However, Elisha's question, 'What is in your house?' prompted her to recognize the small pot of oil she had. Often, we overlook the resources and blessings God has already placed in our lives. Take a moment to inventory what you have—skills, relationships, opportunities—and trust that God can use even the smallest things for His glory.

Bible Verse: 'The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, 'Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.'' - 2 Kings 4:1

Reflection Question: What resources or blessings in your life have you overlooked that God might want to use?

Quote: What is in your house? I would say that most of you, if not all of you, under the sound of my voice, you have more in your house than what you think you do.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see the blessings and resources You have already given me. Help me to trust that You can use even the smallest things for Your purposes. Amen.
Day 2: Acting in Faith
The widow's act of borrowing empty vessels and pouring her small amount of oil into them was a profound act of faith. She didn't know how it would work out, but she trusted God's word through Elisha. Faith often requires us to step out and take action, even when the outcome is uncertain. Trust that God will honor your faith and obedience.

Bible Verse: 'He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'' - Matthew 17:20

Reflection Question: What step of faith is God calling you to take today, even if it seems illogical or uncertain?

Quote: The investment was in the faith to do what the man of God told her to do.

Prayer: Father, give me the courage to act in faith, even when I don't see the whole picture. Help me to trust in Your promises and take the steps You are calling me to take. Amen.

Day 3: God's Unexpected Provision
God's provision often comes in ways we don't expect. The widow's oil multiplied in a miraculous way, showing that God can use the ordinary to do the extraordinary. Be open to the unexpected ways God might provide for you. His methods may surprise you, but His faithfulness is always sure.

Bible Verse: 'After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. 'Go,' he told him, 'wash in the Pool of Siloam' (this word means 'Sent'). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.'' - John 9:6-7

Reflection Question: How can you remain open to the unexpected ways God might provide for you?

Quote: How many of you have figured out little as much God is in it? I mean, when it seems like there's no hope and we still have Jesus, he shows up. He's on time every time, even when we don't think that he is.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your provision, even when it comes in unexpected ways. Open my heart to recognize Your hand at work in my life. Amen.
Day 4: The Power of Obedience
The widow's obedience to Elisha's instructions was crucial for her miracle. Obedience to God's word and His instructions can unlock blessings and breakthroughs in our lives. Reflect on areas where God is calling you to obey, and trust that His commands are for your good.

Bible Verse: 'Jesus said to her, 'Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?'' - John 11:40

Reflection Question: In what areas of your life is God calling you to greater obedience?

Quote: We live like he's coming any second, but we prepare like he's not coming for a long time. Why? Because the church must be about the Father's business.

Prayer: Father, help me to obey Your word and Your instructions, even when it's difficult. I trust that Your commands are for my good and Your glory. Amen.
Day 5: Passing Down the Good News
The story of the widow and the oil is a powerful testimony of God's faithfulness. We are called to share our testimonies and the good news of God's work in our lives with others, especially the next generation. Write down and share the ways God has provided for you, so that others may be encouraged and strengthened in their faith.

Bible Verse: 'And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.'' - Genesis 3:15

Reflection Question: How can you share your testimony of God's faithfulness with others, especially the next generation?

Quote: I want to challenge us to write down the things that God does for us and what he does for our families, what he does for the church. You know why? Because we need to pass down the good news to the next generation and the next generation and the next generation.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a witness of Your faithfulness. Give me the courage to share my testimony and the good news of Your work in my life with others. Amen.
