Why Baptism?
5 Day Devotional
Day 1: The Call to Complete Surrender
Devotional: When we think about surrender, it's often associated with defeat or giving up. But in God's kingdom, surrender leads to victory. Just as a bride and groom fully commit to each other in marriage, our relationship with Christ calls for complete dedication. It's not about partially following or keeping some areas of our lives to ourselves - it's about giving everything to Him. This total surrender begins with our decision to follow Christ and is publicly declared through baptism.
Bible Verse: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" - Matthew 28:19
Reflection Question: What areas of your life are you still holding back from God's control, and what fears or hesitations are preventing you from fully surrendering these areas to Him?
Quote: "Let me tell you right now, God doesn't take part of you. He takes all of you, or he takes none of you."
Prayer:
Lord, help me recognize the areas of my life where I'm still holding back. Give me the courage to surrender everything to You, knowing that Your plans for me are better than anything I could plan for myself. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 2: Following Christ's Example
Devotional: Jesus demonstrated the importance of baptism by traveling 60 miles to be baptized by John. Despite being sinless, He chose to set an example for us to follow. His actions remind us that obedience often requires going out of our way and stepping out of our comfort zone. When we follow Christ's example in baptism, we're not just performing a ritual - we're demonstrating our commitment to follow Him wherever He leads.
Bible Verse: "But Jesus answered him, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.'" - Matthew 3:15
Reflection Question: What steps of obedience is God asking you to take today, and what excuses have you been using to delay taking those steps?
Quote: "Jesus went out of his way 60 miles to be baptized, y'all. And we can't get people that's been saved to walk 150ft."
Prayer: Father, give me the courage to follow Your example, even when it means stepping out of my comfort zone. Help me to be obedient, regardless of the cost or inconvenience. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 3: Breaking Free from Bondage
Devotional: Just as the Israelites had to physically walk through the Red Sea to leave their slavery behind, baptism represents our break from the bondage of our past. While salvation comes through faith, baptism provides a powerful moment of separation from our old life. It's a decisive action that declares our freedom in Christ and our commitment to walking in that freedom.
Bible Verse: "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." - Romans 6:4
Reflection Question: What past bondages or old habits are you still struggling to leave behind, and how might taking steps of obedience help break these chains?
Quote: "The blood saved them, but the baptism separated them from their bondage. If you've not been set free from your bondage, maybe you need to be baptized."
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the freedom You provide. Help me to walk fully in that freedom, leaving behind the chains of my past. Give me courage to take bold steps of faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 4: Your Spiritual Wedding Ring
Devotional: A wedding ring serves as a visible symbol of marriage commitment. Similarly, baptism acts as our spiritual wedding ring - a public declaration of our relationship with Christ. It's not just a private matter between us and God; it's a testimony to the world about our commitment to Him. This public declaration strengthens our faith and encourages others in their spiritual journey.
Bible Verse: "For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." - Galatians 3:27
Reflection Question: How visible is your commitment to Christ in your daily life, and what steps can you take to make your faith more evident to those around you?
Quote: "Baptism is your spiritual wedding ring. It's your public 'I do' to Jesus Christ."
Prayer: Dear God, help me to boldly declare my faith and commitment to You. Let my life be a clear testimony of Your transforming power. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 5: Embracing God's Path
Devotional: God's path often leads us through uncomfortable situations that challenge our natural inclinations. Yet, these moments of discomfort often precede our greatest blessings. When we choose to trust and obey, even when it doesn't make sense to our natural minds, we position ourselves for God's supernatural intervention and blessing in our lives.
Bible Verse: "If you love me, keep my commands." - John 14:15
Reflection Question: What uncomfortable step of obedience might God be asking you to take, and what blessings could you be missing by avoiding this step?
Quote: "Sometimes God's path feels uncomfortable. But obedience brings opportunity, and it brings reward."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the strength to follow Your path, even when it feels uncomfortable. Help me trust that Your ways are higher than my ways. In Jesus' name, Amen.
